Curio Cafe
All Day Long
Challenge
Curio is a neighbourhood café-bar at Preston Circus, Brighton, a collaboration between four of the city's finest independents: Curio Wine, Curing Rebels, Flour Pot Bakery and The Milk Shed Coffee. One location, four distinct businesses, each with their own following.
The name Curio set the tone: a nod to the small, unexpected find worth stopping in for. The identity had to work across a shifting daily offer, coffee and baked goods for morning and lunch, sharing plates, wine, cocktails and choice beers in the afternoon and evenings, with guest chefs and DJs taking over on weekends for a proper slice of European nightlife. Same space, same name, always different.
Solution
We were asked to evolve the Curio Wine identity, transforming it from an online business into one built for a physical space. The brief called for an illustrative aesthetic, so we redrew the Curio logotype by hand, using an outline treatment to keep it light enough for window decals and external awnings. A custom set of iconography extended the style, offset by a minimal monospaced font used throughout the brand application.
A simple palette of bottle green, plaster putty and sunset yellow carried through into the interior walls, furniture and countertops.
