Unmasking the art world
Challenge
Helm is a contemporary art gallery, event space, and cocktail bar, located in Brighton’s North Laine. Positioned as a place for art and a space for everyone, Helm has established itself within the local community and at the forefront of the global art scene, showcasing the work of both established artists and prominent newcomers.
We were briefed to create the brand identity, launch campaign, printed collateral, signage, wayfinding, and guidance for ongoing marketing campaigns.
Solution
Our response was informed by the strategic statement:
No boundaries, all impact.
The logotype is bold, unapologetic, and thrives at every scale. Most effectively, it is used as a device to frame and tease artwork within marketing campaigns for new exhibitions at the gallery. This solution was the focal point of the launch campaign for the inaugural exhibition, Made You Look, with each artist submitting a single artwork to create a series of fly posters, billboards, and social media posts. The concept was further developed for ongoing campaigns and exhibitions, enabling the team at Helm to create a tapestry of content that evolves with each show, while retaining the core principles of their brand strategy.
Within the gallery, the brand is applied to all touch points using a warm dark grey, referenced from a photograph of the English Channel, offsetting the abundance of colour and style that adorns the walls of the space.
