One Garden Brighton

Ruining Brighton’s best kept secret

Challenge

One Garden Brighton is an award-winning public garden, retail, food, and events destination located in Stanmer Park.

At the furthest point of the estate, a dilapidated Victorian walled garden was rediscovered by Plumpton College and, with a grant from the Heritage Fund, was reinvented by modern-day landscape architect Dominic Cole, renowned for his work on the Eden Project.

Our brief was to create an identity that embodies the range of offerings within a single destination, establishing a recognisable brand that promotes each entity within a structured hierarchy.

Solution

We conducted a series of workshop sessions with the management team, defining the project’s aims and target audience. The process resulted in the name, strategy, verbal identity, and brand architecture, leading to the creation of the core identity for One Garden Brighton, which features an ordinal indicator — a typographic symbol set in a dynamic typeface, providing visual cues to the Victorian heritage and the modern-day garden. The naming strategy enabled us to create three consistent sub-brands, using bold and engaging colors to distinguish each entity.

We then devised the launch campaign and compiled an extensive set of brand guidelines, including a social media and advertising strategy with a range of templates for the One Garden team to use. In the final phase, we focused on the brand application for One Market and One Kitchen, along with the wayfinding and on-site communications for the garden.

Since its opening, One Garden Brighton has become a hugely popular destination, receiving numerous awards and attracting large footfalls from both local and national audiences.
