Spectrasoul
Packaging a production partnership
Challenge
Spectrasoul is the production partnership of David Kennet and Jack Stevens, known for their distinctive sound that bridges the gap between musical and dancefloor drum and bass. Over the span of eight years, we were created the artwork and packaging for eight releases on the Brighton-based labels Shogun Audio and Ish Chat Music.
Solution
Delay No More, their debut album, features artwork that combines the personal photography of David Kennet with the timeless typeface, Futura. This simple identity was applied across two 12" singles, one 12" EP, an eight-page CD package, limited-edition posters, promotional stickers, and t-shirts.
The follow-up album, How We Live, emphasises the collective “we” from the title by combining a multi-figure etching by Natascha Young with a bold yellow colourway. Minimal, refined typography allowed the figures to be the main focus, creating a striking and cohesive visual identity for the album campaign.
For their three final EPs, released on Ish Chat Music, the front cover of each 12" sleeve features the full-bleed icon created for their debut album, Delay No More. The back sleeves and centre stickers use a simplistic typographic composition to complement the minimal aesthetic of each release, with Pantone spot colours chosen to work in their own right, and as part of the wider set.
Scope
